This is an ode to the temperature rise last week in the Midwest of America causing many to assume that Spring was here.
Oh winter,
fickle suitor
You tease me so.
You show me the world,
ask me my ring size,
take me to meet your parents,
Then cast me aside.
"No more shivery, icy days you'll spend!"
Nothing but false hope from a false and frozen friend.
The snow melts.
Children ride bikes, windows are opened.
The streets are alive,
renewed at winter's end
Woollens are discarded.
Pastels and cottons begin their reign.
Suburban lawns,
the color of dirty dishwater emerge,
tired of being the backdrop
for frosty snowmen.
The grass appears decayed, distressed and haggard.
Hopes to be lush and green again.
Winter, you traitor, you bounder, you cad.
You pledge a lifetime of happiness
Then jilt me at the altar
with an excuse that's ironclad.
Promises.
Fantasies.
Broken dreams.
It's snowing again.

Jack Frost is a $%&*#! But of course, you have captured the sentiment far more eloquently with your ode here.
Thank you Aunty G for being the voice of mis-spent vernal pining.
Ah, your poetry can warm a heart on a wintry day, keep them coming...
Let's get the shovels out-for the umpteenth time!!!
